SG Flensburg-Handewitt easily in the cup semi-finals

Handball Bundesliga team SG Flensburg-Handewitt can continue to dream of their first DHB Cup victory since 2015.

In the cup quarter-finals, the traditional club won the North German duel against HSV Hamburg with a confident score of 37:25 (14:11). At the Final Four in Cologne in April, the Flensburg team could face MT Melsungen, who had previously prevailed against second division team TuS N-Lübbecke.

The best thrower for Flensburg, who broke away decisively with a 5-0 run at the beginning of the second half, was Danish runner-up Simon Pytlick with nine goals just six days after the European Championship final in Cologne. Dutchman Dani Baijen also scored nine times for Hamburg.

“It was a really good game for us. The most important thing was that we played a little faster today,” said Pytlick: “We are in a good flow and are looking forward to the good atmosphere in Cologne.”

The MT Melsungen, fourth in the Bundesliga, struggled to a 30:28 (16:13) win against the fourth in the 2nd Bundesliga, TuS N-Lübbecke, in Nettelstedt. The Icelandic Elvar Orn Jonsson impressed with ten goals. Jo Gerrit Genz scored seven times for the clear outsider.

The two remaining spots in the Final Four will be awarded on Sunday. The Füchse Berlin will host VfL Gummersbach at 4:30 p.m., HBL table leaders SC Magdeburg will meet defending champions Rhein-Neckar Löwen at 6 p.m. in the new edition of last year’s final. The draw for the Final Four will take place on Tuesday in Cologne.
