Severe damper for BFC Dynamo’s dreams of promotion to the third division, 0: 2 in the relegation first leg against Oldenburg – rbb – regional

It was a bitter afternoon for BFC Dynamo in front of 5,000 spectators in the sold-out Sportforum Hohenschönhausen: The Berliners lost 2-0 (1-0) to VfB Oldenburg in the first leg for promotion to the third division. Especially in the first half, the champions of the Regionalliga Nordost disappointed. The ten-time GDR title holder now needs a football surprise in the second leg in seven days at the Oldenburg Marschweg Stadium (July 4, 2 p.m.) in order to return to professional football for the first time since reunification.

Playfully superior to Oldenburg

In Oldenburg, those responsible had clearly pushed the role of favorites in the direction of BFC Dynamo before the game – including VfB coach Dario Fossi: “This is a very ripped off and experienced regional league team.” However, his team was not intimidated by this. On the contrary: the champions of the Regionalliga Nordost controlled the game from the start. The Oldenburg attacked early, provoked mistakes – and also set the first cautious offensive accents in the Sportforum, initially without bringing the BFC defense into serious trouble.

The hosts struggled. Pressure and nervousness was clearly noticeable in coach Christian Benbennek’s team. Many actions of the BFC were clearly too imprecise – the result: the team wobbled at the back and was completely harmless at the front. The 23-goal striker Christan Beck – like the rest of the home side’s attack – didn’t come into play at all for long stretches. Even the parade discipline of the BFC did not want to succeed at all: the few flanks and standards did not create any danger. The team looked helpless.

BFC only more awake after the break

This inferiority was also reflected in the scoreboard after 27 minutes: After a corner by Dennis Engel from the right – also caused by one of the hosts’ many technical faux pas – Robert Zietarski headed on target and the ball bounced off the inside of the post to make it 1-0 -Leadership for Oldenburg in goal. Even after this setback, the BFC did not manage to pull itself together. Instead, it was Oldenburg captain Max Wegner who almost followed suit shortly afterwards: BFC keeper Dimitri Stajila was able to clear his shot from almost 20 meters out with a strong save to the corner (30′).

Benbennek reacted with two changes in the half-time break. Darryl Geurts and Philipp Schulz replaced Andor Bolyki and captain Andreas Pollasch. And not only the staff had changed in the dressing room, but also the attitude: The BFC – so inhibited in the first 45 minutes – acted much more grippy and with more urge forward. After a corner, VfB keeper Pelle Boevink had to save against Niklas Brandt (49′). And Dynamo was now a regular guest in the Oldenburg penalty area.

Beck misses a top chance

VfB – just like BFC in the first half faced with a strong headwind – hardly got into the opposing half. After 67 minutes, Dynamo should have rewarded Dynamo for their superiority: Beck got the ball almost unchallenged after a cross from the left a few meters in front of Oldenburg keeper Boevink. A hundred percent chance, but the 34-year-old headed on the right gate over.

And that paid off. The BFC couldn’t keep up the pressure – and Oldenburg used their first chance in the second half to make it 2-0: it was another headed goal and again it was Zietarski who scored it (79′). Stajila in the home side’s goal looked more than unhappy. The BFC tried everything again, but was unsuccessful. The rise dreams of Berliners threaten to burst.
