At least four people died in a gas explosion in a luxury department store in the East Asian island republic of Taiwan. According to the fire brigade, 24 other people suffered injuries in the city of Taichung. As the authority continued, the gas explosion occurred on the twelfth floor, which was probably temporarily closed due to construction work. The investigation was still on the exact cause of the accident.
On video recordings, it was seen how a considerable amount of facade and components from the upper floors were thrown through the force of the explosion. They fell on the sidewalk and the street. Photos in local media showed smashed walls and a partly collapsed blanket in the interior of the department store.
Falling parts meet family
Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen said that several workers: inside, employees and announcements were brought to different hospitals for treatment. According to Lu, falling parts met a family of seven who was traveling near the department store. The grandparents died. A two -year -old girl is in a critical condition. The rest of the family suffered minor injuries.
On television, an eyewitness said to have been with her husband on the sixth floor of the building. They had heard a loud bang and initially thought that it was an earthquake. “Parts fell down from the elevator at the top, and there were broken glass on every floor,” she said TVBS News.
