Last night several drivers were surprised by a heavy hailstorm, which suddenly caused a slippery road surface. For example, a van ended up on its side on the E40 near Bruges around 11 p.m. The driver had to be freed from his vehicle by the fire brigade. A little later, several accidents also occurred on the highway towards the coast.

The snowfall also caused several accidents on the West Flemish highways this morning. Several vehicles skidded, especially in the Adinkerke area. A Briton’s car ended up in the canal, between the highway and a service road. (photo)
