The German ski jumpers disappoint in the first training session for the Olympic decision. Flag bearer Schmid and medal candidate Freitag remain far behind the competition.
One day before her big appearance as flag bearer at the opening ceremony, Katharina Schmid suffered a setback in the first official training for the ski jumping decision on the normal hill. The 24-year-old took 15th, 18th and 19th place in Predazzo on Thursday evening.
Medal candidate Selina Freitag was also a long way behind the best with places ten, twelve and eight. The best DSV jumper was Agnes Reisch with fourth, tenth and fifth places. Juliane Seyfarth didn’t get past ranks 38, 33 and 26.
The top favorite for the decision on Saturday (6.45 p.m.) remains the Slovenian world champion Nika Prevc. She won two of the three rounds and came second once. Further training rounds are scheduled for Friday morning. In the evening, part of the opening ceremonies will take place in the ski jumping arena. Schmid will carry the German flag there.
The three training runs on the small ski jump, which has recently come under criticism, resulted in no falls. Several jumpers were seriously injured during the dress rehearsal in the summer. The ski jump was then modified.
