Carlos Rodriguez suffered a serious injury during his fall on Wednesday at the Tour de France and abandoned the race.
The Spanish captain of the Ineos cycling team had been involved in a mass crash in Valence in the final of the 17th stage in pouring rain. Until then, Rodriguez had been in tenth place in the overall classification.
The following day, the team stated a hip break as a diagnosis. “He will travel home and focus on rehab,” Ineos shared. The season should be ended for the 24-year-old tour fifth of 2023.
After the crash on Wednesday, the Frenchman Cyril Barthe (FDJ groupama) also had to give up because of a concussion. The Eritrean Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty), who won the green jersey last year, continued on Thursday. The German sprinter Pascal Ackermann, which was involved in the fall, was also largely unharmed.
