Seriously injured after accident with trailer in Geluwe

A 23-year-old woman from Wervik drove her car, a Volkswagen Polo, along the N8 from Geluveld to Geluwe just before 10 a.m. The car was towing a trailer filled with sand. However, on a descending part of the road things went wrong. The trailer began to sway, causing the driver to lose control. The car went off the road and collided with a tree on the side of the road. The trailer came to a stop in the ditch.

Passenger trapped

The driver of the car was slightly injured, but her passenger had to be freed from the wreckage by the fire brigade. The 23-year-old man from Zonnebeke sustained serious injuries. Both occupants were taken to hospital. Their condition is stable.
