PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma suffered a serious facial injury in the top league game between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and AS Monaco.
In the 18th minute of the game, Monaco’s Wilfried Singo ran towards the Parisian goal, but put the ball too far forward. Donnarumma stormed out of his goal to block the ball. Singo tried to jump over the goalkeeper and unfortunately hit him in the face with his studs. Donnarumma was bleeding profusely shortly afterwards.
DAZN commentator David Ploch was shocked and said: “Uh oh. That doesn’t look good.” Donnarumma initially remained dazed on the grass and had to be treated there. During a five-minute break in the game, his face was apparently stapled to the level of his cheekbone while still on the field, as “Bild” reports. Despite his injury, he was able to leave the field independently and was replaced by Matvey Safonov.
After the collision, the referee awarded a free kick to PSG, but Singo was not given another card despite already being booked. Despite the loss of their goalkeeper, PSG ultimately won the game 4-2.
