Serious crash after crazy ride at 198 kilometers per hour: 200 hours of community service

Zion G. (22) from Tilburg will receive 200 hours of community service for a mega crash on the Ringbaan Noord in Tilburg in August 2022. The court in Breda ruled this on Thursday. He was also given a suspended prison sentence of two months.

During the hearing two weeks ago, it turned out that it was a miracle that no deaths occurred in this enormous crash. Nothing was left of the Audi A5 after a huge slide into a tree and a lamppost. Even the judge was shocked by the photos of the wreck: “You are lucky that we can have a conversation here,” she said to Zion G. (22) during the hearing.

Reckless
The court therefore ruled that Zion drove recklessly. Photos and video show that there is nothing left in the fast Audi. The file shows that several witnesses saw Zion driving at high speed on the East and North Ring Road. GPS data and loops in the road completed the picture of a crazy ride through Tilburg in the early morning of August 12, 2022.

Zion has driven from downtown at speeds between 114 and 198 kilometers per hour, where 50 is the maximum speed. A witness reported that he drove through several red traffic lights. A loop in the road recorded that he overtook on the right at the intersection with Quirijnstoklaan at 155 to 198 kilometers per hour.

First aid kit
The road then makes a bend and at that speed Zion couldn’t keep the bend. He skidded and collided with a tree and lamppost. When he looked to his right his friend was gone. When the car split in half, he was thrown out of the car, seat and all. Zion, who was able to get out of the car himself, went to check on the bike path and saw that his friend was in bad shape and bleeding from the ears and mouth. He gave him a first aid kit and left himself because he couldn’t bear it.

Zion said “sorry” numerous times. He doesn’t remember exactly what happened and he certainly hadn’t been drinking or using anything else. He doesn’t remember the ride either. He also doesn’t remember exactly what his friend and he had done all night.

Waddling and falling
A pizza had been bought and eaten at his mother’s house. A friend had been visited, but memories remain vague, Zion told the judges. A witness had seen the two walking in the center of Tilburg. They staggered and fell and hit a post twice as they made a loud noise. Five minutes later the crash occurred on the North Ring Road.

In addition to the community service and the suspended prison sentence, the probation service also keeps an eye on Zion. He was already under supervision due to a previous conviction.
