So much has been said about Meghan Markle, so much ugly, mostly that you have to be careful to add something to it. Yet is over With Love, Meghan Little positive to report. The eight-part ‘lifestyle’ series that appeared on Netflix this month does not know what she wants to be: cooking show, craft club, or chat TV.
Markle is now better known as the Duchess of Sussex of course, the title she has been wearing since her marry with British prince Harry. That is also the source of all ugly that Meghan gets over her: since she and Harry married in 2018, she can do little good in the eyes of the British press. (Do you still remember avocado-gate? Kate Middleton, married to Harry’s brother and crown prince William, received praise from the British press during a pregnancy because she ate Avocado-‘Healthy!’-While Meghan was associated with violation of human rights in exactly the same situation.)
Anyway – the viewer who is interested in it can be better Harry & Meghan Also watch a Netflix series, in which the two extensively explain how they were treated by the royal family and the British press (bad). Of With Love, Meghan Want Meghan clearly wants to get rid of the image of disgraceed Duchess.
Not a word about the British royals in her new series. Prince Harry only comes into the picture in the last episode.
After Harry and Meghan laid their official royal functions in 2020 and moved via Canada to California, the couple with Netflix closed 100 million dollars. With Love, Meghan is the fourth project that comes from that deal. The structure of the show is simple: Meghan receives a guest from her famous American circle of acquaintances at home and then prepares a lunch, makes Bijenwas candles, or goes for a walk.
All ingredients that such series normally make to relax and cheerful TV deliver in With Love, Meghan A fairly saltless whole. In the first place, this has to do with how guests in Meghan’s kitchen are involved in the preparation. Actress Mindy Kaling can come up in the episode in which Meghan organizes a children’s party. The ‘help’ of Kaling consists of cutting a banana into slices, for the ‘rainbow salad of fruit’ that Meghan itself, as we see in a flashback, has already largely prepared.
If at least a nice conversation arises between hostess and guest, that is not that disturbing. But Meghan is clearly not an interviewer. That produces boring scenes. Take the episode in which she is in the kitchen with chef Alice Waters. Waters, who is widely praised in the US if the woman who had Americans eat fresh again, you could ask a hundred things about, well, preparing food. But the two women don’t come much deeper than a mutual ‘what an honor to meet’.
And if someone gets the space to display his cooking skills, such as the Korean-American chef Roy Choi, then everything is so filmed that you still have no idea how all ingredients exactly come together into a dish.

A more fundamental objection is that With Love, Meghan comes to the world. Do this at home too, Meghan encourages the viewer several times. But who makes his own bath salts for his lodges, refreshing wipes with essential oils for walking and who wants to tend to set up a balloon arch for a children’s party? You can also do this with little money, says actress Kaling about that children’s party. The camera then registers a luxurious scene that is difficult to imagine that it did not cost at least thousands of dollars.
It looks beautiful, just like everything in the series looks beautiful and tasty. It can be nice to take it there, but leave that emphasis on ‘you can do this completely, and give us the entire royal treatment, golden forks and lush dinners.
Instead, it should go on for an ordinary life that is within reach, but of course that is not the life of an ex-Royal. Moreover, Meghan is not even in her own kitchen in the series. For the recordings, another house was rented in her hometown of Montecito. So eight episodes looked at a lifestyle, but of whom is that lifestyle actually?
