Serie C, Saturday’s results

Piedmontese derby at Pro Vercelli: Alessandria ko Seventh useful result in a row for Rimini. Messina disputed

Here’s everything that happened on a 13-match Serie C Saturday, with all three groups protagonists.

group a

When playing in the exile of Fontanafredda, Triestina only knows how to win: Tesser’s team overwhelms Arzignano (4-1) immediately attacking the match, with Lescano scoring, Vallocchia with a brace and D’Urso (at 2-0, shortened Grandolfo). Tesser’s team remains 5 points away from the top, but with a game to recover. Meanwhile, Vicenza’s gradual rise continues, with their third victory in the last four matches: Pro Sesto beaten 2-0 at Menti with a goal in each half from Della Morte and Rolfini, also including a penalty saved by Botti from Ronaldo. The Piedmontese derby smiles at Pro Vercelli, who dispatches Alessandria with a goal in each half (2-0, Houdi and Maggio), making Sergio Pirozzi’s first time on the bench of the Grays bitter. Virtus Verona reaches Renate (1-1), who have not found a victory in seven games: despite the entire second half in numerical inferiority (red card contested against Daffara), Zarpellon responds to Procaccio’s penalty which had given the team the lead Pavanel. Same result (1-1) also in Legnago-Pro Patria: everything happens in the second half, with Rocco replying to Pitou’s advantage.

While waiting for Torres-Gubbio, the solitary summit on Saturday evening is taken by Cesena who passes to Pescara: at the Adriatico, the signature on the 1-0 (fourth success in a row) goes to Cristian Shpendi – top scorer of the group with 8 goal –, served by Adamo’s tenth assist of the season (Zeman, on the other hand, hasn’t won for a month and slips to within 15 of the top). Draw between Perugia and Carrarese (1-1) in the other big match, that of Curi: the rings at the end of the first half, with the winning split in front of goal by Capello and the Umbrian equalizer by Matos, a shot deflected into his own net by Imperiale ( in the second half, Perugia came close to scoring with the crossbar hit by Ricci). Seventh useful result in a row – including the Italian Cup – for Troise’s Rimini, who thanks to the usual Morra beat Fermana (1-0, fourth consecutive knockout for the Marche team at the bottom of the table). After two defeats, Entella starts again with success (1-0) on the Pontedera pitch: Zamparo’s penalty in the first half is enough, De Lucia’s saves and the crossbar hit by Ianesi stop the Tuscans. Another away success was achieved by Vis Pesaro, overcoming Lucchese: at 2-1 against Porta Elisa there was a scratch from Sylla (a brace, the first goal from a penalty), Rizzo Pinna halved the deficit for the Rossoneri. Juventus Next Gen returns to success after almost a month, but still has two games to recover: to beat Arezzo (1-0) the young Bianconeri benefit from Masetti’s own goal in the first half, then defend the lead in the second half played in numerical superiority due to the expulsion of Mawuli. Spal moves up the table, but has remained without victories for a month and is in the playout zone: at the Mazza it ends 2-2 against Ancona, the Ferrara team overturns Paolucci’s initial lead with Peda and Rosafio, but then they are joined by Spagnoli (at 1-1, a couple of chances for the guests with the excellent Saco).

group C

Huge success for Juve Stabia, who at least for one evening extended their lead to plus 6 over the second teams: all they needed to win in Messina (1-0) was a strike from defender Bellich (fourth goal of the season, all from dead ball). The Senegalese goalkeeper Thiam extends his unbeaten run to 473′ and Modica’s team – contested by the Franco Scoglio crowd – thus suffers their fifth consecutive defeat (and, in turn, has not scored for 461′). The leaders thus put pressure on their pursuers, on the eve of important matches: tomorrow’s big match is Picerno-Avellino, Benevento receives Monterosi on Monday and next weekend it will be on stage in Castellammare.
