The black and white wall collapses in the final. Samp wins with character at Marassi, Ascoli comes back in the second half and heads towards the playoff fray: the scratches of Kasami and De Luca make it 2-1 against Castori’s team, which passes after 10′ and holds out until a quarter from now on from the ninetieth. The Blucerchiati move up to ninth place with 37 points and catch up with Pisa in eighth place, but ahead in head-to-head matches (Cittadella also has the same points, tenth). Castori’s team remains third from last, with 28 points.

Ascoli passes

Duris’ first Italian goal opens Monday night. After 10′, the Slovakian controls the area and shoots with his left foot: Ghilardi’s deflection is unfortunate, it deceives Stankovic and Ascoli is ahead. Sampdoria tries to react and slowly raises the center of gravity, but another sensational opportunity happens to Rodriguez shortly after the half hour mark: on Caligara’s pass, the attacker finishes with a sure shot with his left foot, but Stankovic’s save is prodigious and the ball ends up on the post. Castori’s team doesn’t let go and before the break Rodriguez’s second goal is also canceled out: Caligara shoots from the edge, Duris touches it and the Spaniard anticipates everyone, but the VAR signals the starting offside.

Sampdoria comeback

In the second half, the Blucerchiati started in fifth place and after a couple of turns of the clock there was the first thrill with Alvarez, who hit the post from a free kick. The home team’s pressure was constant, but until the hour mark it found no outlet and was limited to a couple of long-range shots from Kasami and Darboe. This is how in the 61st minute the Bianconeri had the sensational chance of doubling their lead with Duris, who from two steps fired high an assist to Rodriguez’s kiss after a lightning counterattack. Pirlo livens up his team’s maneuver with the entry of Sebastiano Esposito onto the field (in place of Darboe) and thirteen minutes from the end the equalizer arrives: the number 7 takes advantage of a half-hearted header from Quaranta and serves the right ball to Kasami for the 1-1. The Sampdoria captain comes running to the edge of the area and pierces Vasquez by placing a nice left-footed shot just behind the post. At this point the Ligurians believe it and the comeback is completed 5′ from the end: Barreca’s cross from the left catches De Luca in the area and Samp’s man of the moment finds the deflection to make it 2-1. His fourth center in the last 4 of the championship is worth a huge success for Pirlo, who for the first time in the season is at playoff level.
