Serena Williams actually ended her career almost four years ago. But now she could apparently return to the tennis court – in just a few weeks.

It would be one of the most spectacular comebacks in tennis history: The 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams is apparently about to return to the tour. According to a report in the British Telegraph, the 44-year-old American has applied for a wildcard for the grass tournament at London’s Queen’s Club in around two weeks. According to the report, she is planning to start in doubles alongside the young Canadian Victoria Mboko (19).

Williams re-entered the anti-doping testing pool last year, raising initial hopes among fans of a return, but the speculation was not confirmed. Williams actually ended her unique career at the US Open in 2022.

In her unprecedentedly successful career, she also won Olympic gold four times: in singles in 2012, and in doubles in 2000, 2008 and 2012 alongside her older sister Venus. She also holds numerous records from the four Grand Slam tournaments and is the record winner of the Australian Open (seven titles) and US Open (six) in the so-called “Open Era” since 1968.

“I’ll definitely watch the first match”

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka would welcome a comeback from Williams. “It will make people watch tennis because it always attracts a big audience. So, yeah, I think it’s good. I’ll definitely watch the first match. I think a lot of people will,” said the Japanese when asked about the French Open rumors.

Venus Williams (45), Serena’s older sister and seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, made her comeback on the tour last summer.
