Serena Williams will make her return to singles at Wimbledon in just over a week after almost four years. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has received a wild card from the organization, after previously being admitted to the doubles in London with her sister Venus.

The 44-year-old Williams made her return to doubles at Queen’s earlier this month. Until then, the American played her last official tennis match at the 2022 US Open. In 2023 she had her second daughter.

Williams first competed in Wimbledon in 1998 and won the singles for the first time in 2002 after beating Venus in the final.

Six titles followed, the last of which was in 2016. She also won six doubles titles in London with Venus.

Williams last participated in Wimbledon in 2022, also with a wild card. She then lost in the first round to Harmony Tan from France. A few months later she said she would step away from tennis, although she never officially stopped.

Williams lost her first doubles match in Berlin this week with the Czech Karolína Muchová.

A week earlier at Queen’s she celebrated her return with a victory, together with the Canadian Victoria Mboko. The two subsequently did not play in the second round due to an injury to Mboko.

Wimbledon starts on Monday June 29.
