Serbia 2-3 Türkiye MATCH RESULT – SUMMARY Sultans of the Net are European Champions!



A National Women’s Volleyball Team defeated Serbia 3-2 in the final of the 2023 CEV European Championship and became the champion for the first time in its history.


While both countries started the match with mutual points, the middle of the set was passed with a score of 14-14. Serbia, which made fewer mistakes in these minutes, scored three points (18-15) in a row. The national team, which equalized in 19-19 with the three-point series in Vargas’s service round, gave Serbian Head Coach Giovanni Guidetti a timeout. While both teams got mutual points until 25-25, Serbia, which made fewer mistakes in the last points, finished the first set 27-25 ahead and took a 1-0 lead.


In the second set, both teams played effectively on offense, and the beginning of the set was equaled 5-5. With Eda Erdem Dündar’s points, the national team caught a two-point gap (6-8) and increased this gap to four (11-15) towards the middle of the set, where they defended well. Continuing to maintain the difference (16-20) with Ebrar Karakurt’s points at the end of the set, the national team made Serbian Head Coach Giovanni Guidetti take his second timeout in this set. Playing better at the end of the game, the national team finished the second set 25-21 superior.


Starting the third set well both offensively and defensively, Serbia caught a two-point (5-3) lead at the beginning of the set. The national team, which immediately found a three-point series, went ahead 6-5. After the 6-6 tie, the national team, who caught a five-point series in Vargas’ service round, took the lead 11-6. Capturing a four-point series with consecutive points and narrowing the gap to two (13-15), Serbia gave a time-out to A National Women’s Volleyball Team Head Coach Daniele Santarelli. Even though the national team increased the gap to four (14-18) again, Serbia continued its effective game and equalized in 19-19. Playing well in the last points, Serbia won the third set 25-22, coming from behind.






Starting the fourth set effectively, the national team caught a three-point (2-5) difference at the beginning of the game. Serbia, which increased its effectiveness in attack and defense after mutual points, closed the gap and went ahead 9-8. While the middle of the set continued with 13-13 equality, the nationals who caught a two-point series took the lead by 15-13. Closed the gap towards the end of the set, Serbia caught the equality again at 18-18. The national team, which was effective at the end of the set, finished the fourth set 25-22 ahead and carried the final match to the decision set.


Starting the final set well, the national team caught a two-point (3-5) advantage at the beginning of the set and gave Serbian Head Coach Giovanni Guidetti a time-out. Returning from the time-out with a two-pointer, Serbia equalized at 5-5. While mutual numbers were taken in the game, the last part of the set was entered with 10-10 equality. Capturing a two-point series, the national team went ahead 12-10. Making few mistakes at the end of the set, the national team won the final set 15-13 and the match 3-2.


After the FIVB Nations League, the national team won the European Championship for the first time in its history.
