“Senna (22) is killed by street race,” is on top of the Google results for those looking for the name Senna van den Hoogen. We see a photo of a battered, white Mercedes, who was run in on the Volkswagen Caddy of the 22-year-old motorist from Berghem. The sweet, involved, tough, young woman became news in one fell swoop. But she is so much more colorful than just that headline.

“She didn’t have to work that day,” says good friend Jacobus (24), who speaks on behalf of their close group of friends. “She wanted to help a colleague friend by taking over a service.” Senna worked as a security guard at a security service. “She was collegial and was ready for everyone. You could never make coffee herself, she really wanted to do that for you. And she took something for you from vacation as standard,” Laura describes her.

In the middle of the night, Senna was on his way to a report, when she got the green light at a traffic light in Oss. “The other traffic light, at the intersection with the royal graphdonk, has been on red for almost a minute and a half,” says the court report. But two young people in their twenties had it.

“Her goodness has become her end.”

‘Mark R. rode between 141 and 163 kilometers per hour and Bram C. 115 to 127’, it says. The two fled through red at high speed, after which Mark’s car created Senna. He had not had to go out, but did that out of involvement anyway. “Her goodness has become her end,” says Jacobus about it.

He read the news on the internet for the first time. “” Woman of 22 from Berghem died. “We should know that, I thought.” Berghem is not that big. “You first think: someone my age, that comes close. And then you hear it is Senna.”

His group of friends remained full of disbelief. For some it felt like a nauseous joke. “If anyone can drive, it is she,” says Jacobus. “That is why it was nice that a goodbye could be said goodbye.” Only when they saw her in the coffin did they believe it was real. “We would go to the terrace, Senna still had all kinds of plans. That is gone in one fell swoop.”

In addition, the traffic drama for the whole world was public. Even before all the loved ones knew it, photos and videos of the caught cars were already on the front pages. Senna had become ‘news’. Something that strangers give a response to Facebook, an article at the top when you are looking for a name.

“The tricky thing about online is that you are always confronted with it, but it also provides support. Every online reaction is support,” says Jacobus. The relatives mainly noticed that support during the lawsuits that followed after the fatal accident. With sixty men to friends and family, they crawled on the visitor benches of the court in Den Bosch, to follow the criminal proceedings of Mark R. and Bram C.

There they heard fierce details about the death of Senna. “Then you have a lump in your throat and you get trouble breathing. But you keep the beautiful memories. Actually it is a very nice feature, where she died. That loyalty.”

The statement was disappointing. “And it did a lot to see how little it did for them,” says Jacobus. “Is this an act? What did Senna think? Did she suffer? It remains continuously fresh, because of those lawsuits. While Senna would have something like: let go, let go.”

“Senna was a connector.”

In the meantime, the group of friends is trying to find support together. They want to keep her as close as possible. Senna is more than the tragic article, at the top of the Google results. Much more. “She was just a great girl. Always stood for everything and everyone ready and the sobriety itself. Senna was a connector.”

Her presence is a daily lack for her loved ones, even though some did not speak to her every day. Senna made time for her friends and family and always had the glass half full. She was tough, stood firmly in her shoes and was certainly not a girl girl.

At her funeral everyone received a coin for the AutoShstraat. “Senna loved a clean car,” laughs Jacobus. “I had mine engraved.” “It will be fine,” says it. ”

Those were her words. A typical Senna statement. That way she always stays close. Via a washing lump, a tattoo or a photo in the car. Each in his own way, but always with her close by.
