A total of 8729 new Tesla’s were given in the EU last month, compared to 14,682 in May last year. In view of the first five months of this year, this is a decrease from more than 45% to 50,413 Tesla’s. Tesla’s market share was 0.9% last month, compared to 1.6% in May last year.

Tesla is bothered by, among other things, the fuss around CEO Elon Musk about his work for US President Donald Trump. Musk has since deposited to concentrate on his companies again. In Germany, Musk has received a lot of criticism of his support for the extreme right -wing party AFD in the parliamentary elections earlier this year. In addition, the brand has to deal with fierce competition from cheaper Chinese cars.

The overall sale of electric cars in the EU is on the rise. The sale of electric cars in Europe increased by 25% to 142,776 copies according to these figures last month. Up to and including May 2025, the market share of battery cars was 15.4% in the EU. That is an increase compared to 12.1% market share in May 2024. In the Netherlands, an increase of more than 8% could be seen.

A total of 926,582 new passenger cars were placed on license plate in the EU last month. That is 1.6% more than in May last year.

Research by the Waakhond DGCCRF, which investigates market manipulation and fraud, has shown that Tesla misleads consumers about the degree of autonomy of his vehicles and about the availability of certain options in its models.

The authorities call those practices “illegal” and “seriously misleading.” Tesla has four months to stop, according to DGCCRF. If the American group of Musk does not, a fine of € 50,000 a day awaits.
In addition, the regulator has complaints about missing delivery dates, absorbing repayments and lack of administration at Tesla.
