The height of the hourly rate does not automatically determine how much remains below the line. “In some provinces, the housing costs and the personal costs are lower, which gives room to do well with a slightly lower rate,” says financial expert Oskar Barendse of Knab. “It also plays a role how many hours someone can invoice and how efficiently a self -employed person deals with his costs and taxes.”

In Brabant, half of the independent entrepreneurs experience many personal costs. A quarter says it has many business costs. The Knab study also shows that 56 percent of Brabant freelancers have started to count a higher hourly rate in the past year. On average they ask nine percent more than before.
