It’s a bizarre scene. A security guard from the asylum seeker center (AZC) in Budel who lets a resident of the AZC kiss his shoes. According to the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA), the video is real, but two and a half years old.

The video was posted on video platform Dumpert on Monday evening. In the few-second video you see and hear a security guard talking to a resident. “On your knees, on your knees. Kiss,” the security guard orders the man, pointing to his shoes.

‘Good boy’
The boy folds himself on the ground and indeed kisses the security guard’s shoes. β€œGood boy,” says the security guard, indicating that the boy should sit on a chair.

Two of the security guard’s colleagues watch, but do not intervene, while a fourth person films the bizarre scene.

COA confirms authenticity
The COA confirmed the authenticity of the video on Monday evening. “The video is known. It is a video that is two and a half years old,” says a spokesperson for the COA.

“At the time, we investigated it internally and took measures. We believe it is important that people treat each other respectfully and that goes both ways. Behavior that is inappropriate is subject to measures,” said the spokesperson.

Security guard no longer works at COA
While COA normally does not make any statements about personnel, the spokesperson does want to say that the security guard in question, hired via Trigion, no longer works at COA. “It’s an old video. It has been dealt with further for us.”
