1. FC Magdeburg won the basement duel in the 2nd Bundesliga. The newly promoted team won 2-1 (1-1) against SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Sunday and celebrated their second win of the season.
While FCM left the relegation zone and climbed to 15th place, Fürth, who have been relegated to the Bundesliga, is at the bottom with four points. After the lead by debutant Cristiano Piccini (38th), Damian Michalski (42nd) gave the Fürth team a quick equaliser. Moritz-Broni Kwarteng (86th) made the late decision.

Magdeburg got off to a better start and were initially the more active team. Despite their best efforts, both teams found it difficult to get into the game. So standards had to ensure goal danger: Fürth couldn’t clear properly after a corner, a long-range shot from Kwarteng sent goalkeeper Andreas Linde bouncing and Piccini dusted off the lead to take the lead.
The guests immediately switched to more offensive, were now much more present and also equalized after a corner thanks to Michalski.

After the break, the guests maintained their more active attitude. Magdeburg’s defense had a lot more work to do, even if there was still little danger from the game on either side.
Neither team wanted to make the crucial mistake, nobody took the ultimate risk. Magdeburg’s Amara Condé (72′) had the best chance, but his ball only hit the crossbar.
Then Kwarteng hit the right angle from 19 meters to win. The Franconians have been waiting for a win for 21 games across the season.
Magdeburg to Rostock
On the 9th match day, the promoted team from Magdeburg has to play away at Hansa Rostock (Saturday, September 17th, 2022 at 1 p.m.). A day later, things get serious for Fürth in the home game against SC Paderborn (1:30 p.m.).
