When the second division teams returned to the Basketball Cup, BBC Bayreuth failed at the start of the first round against Bundesliga club MLP Academics Heidelberg.
The first ProA club in the BBL Cup in 14 years lost to Heidelberg on Friday evening in a close duel at home with 82:89 (52:50). Second division teams were last allowed to play in the cup in 2009.
In the next round, Heidelberg will face the winner of the game between the Fraport Skyliners (ProA) and the Syntainics MBC (BBL).
