Second division regular traded at BVB

In his first season at Borussia Dortmund, Gregor Kobel impressively underlined his status as the number one goalkeeper for BVB, and the Swiss will also be the top dog in the Black and Yellow box in 2022/23. However, the hierarchy behind the 24-year-old still has some question marks. Now the name of a quite surprising backup is haunting the media.

It has been clear for a few weeks that long-time regular Roman Bürki will leave BVB in the summer of 2022 for the US MLS. The fact that Marwin Hitz, who once pushed Bürki out of the Dortmund goal but has now had to give way to Gregor Kobel, is at least not set in stone: “sports1” recently brought a return to FC Augsburg into play. According to the “Ruhr Nachrichten”, Stefan Drljaca, a goalkeeper from the second row of Borussia, is said to be about to move to VfB Stuttgart – in short: At BVB there is probably a need for action before the coming season between the posts.

Of the “table football” now brings a name into play that only experts have had on the list so far: Alexander Meyer from second division club Jahn Regensburg.

According to the specialist magazine, the 31-year-old is a candidate for a position as a substitute goalkeeper in the Borussia Dortmund squad.

BVB new signing tip the scales?

Meyer switched from VfB Stuttgart to Jahn Regensburg in the summer of 2019, where he has been the undisputed number one ever since. Meyer was previously under contract with Hamburger SV, TSV Havelse and Energie Cottbus. However, the career of the 1.95 meter giant has not yet featured in the German football league. His contract ends after the season.

Whether BVB is really serious about Meyer should ultimately also depend on whether Marcel Lotka really switches from Hertha BSC to Dortmund. BVB has already signed the 20-year-old, but Lotka rose to become the regular keeper for the Berliners almost at the same time. Now the capitals should work on keeping the youngster.
