Second division: Good general Young FC Volendam, Royal HFC third and AFC victory

Jong FC Volendam starts the diptych against Jong Almere City with a good feeling. Kiki Musampa’s team defeated Excelsior Maasluis 3-1. In a direct duel for second place, Koninklijke HFC drew the short straw against HHC (3-1) and AFC closed the season by beating IJsselmeervogels: 2-0.

It was already clear last week that Jong Volendam must try to maintain itself in the second division by beating Jong Almere City. After seventeen minutes, Milan Zonneveld seemed to break the spell against Excelsior Maassluis, but he was flagged for offside.

A few minutes later, Zonneveld was able to cheer after a marker over goalkeeper Tobias van der Kleij. Before halftime, central defenders Sjors Kramer and Jay Koorndijk also scored: 3-0. In the second half Luivienno Statia did something back, the victory was no longer in danger: 3-1.

Coming Wednesday, June 8 and Saturday, June 11, the diptych against Jong Almere is on the program. Jong Volendam finished eleventh in the ranking.

Third place HFC

For HFC only the second place was at stake against HHC from Hardenberg. It took until the second half for goals to be scored. Ashwin Manuhutu scored the opening goal, after which Jesper Drost and Thomas Reinders also scored.

Goalkeeper Mitchel Michaelis saved a penalty in between. In the last minute Gerry Vlak saved the honor somewhat: 3-1. Because of the loss, third place was the final standings in the second division for the Haarlem-squad.

Farewell Verhaar and Landvreugd

At the last game of AFC, Thomas Verhaar and trainer Ulrich Landvreugd said goodbye in style. Verhaar scored the opening goal, after which Raily Ignacio (on his birthday) scored the second against IJsselmeervogels: 2-0. Landvreugd will work in Telstar’s youth academy, while Verhaar will become a full-time assistant trainer at Excelsior.

With the win, AFC ends the season in sixth place in the second division.
