Sebastian Vettel’s last Formula 1 victory almost four years ago in Singapore has no overriding significance for the four-time world champion.
“My last Formula 1 race was much more emotionally charged because I knew it was the last race. But with the last win, you don’t know that it’s the last win, unless it was the last race Vettel said with a smile to the German Press Agency before the Singapore Grand Prix this Sunday.
“I would have liked there to be more victories. But I’m not sad that it wasn’t like that. I can’t remember all of my victories and that’s an enormous luxury,” Vettel continued.
Formula 1: Singapore a “special track”
The now 36-year-old ended his Formula 1 career at the end of last season. On September 22, 2019, he celebrated his last of a total of 53 Grand Prix successes in Singapore. At that time, Vettel was still driving for Ferrari.
Singapore is a “special route” and has “always been very close to him over the years. It is technically very demanding, a street circuit that doesn’t forgive you any mistakes. And of course the element that you drive in the dark,” said the Heppenheimer, who does not yet have a concrete idea for a professional life after Formula 1.
“Singapore was also by far the longest race on the calendar, combined with the high humidity it was physically very demanding. If you were fit in Singapore, then you were fit on all the other routes too.”
