Sebastian Kehl draws a “split” first round conclusion

Borussia Dortmund is taking the winter break in the Bundesliga nine points behind FC Bayern. Licensed player manager Sebastian Kehl therefore looks back on the first half of the season at BVB with mixed feelings.

Borussia Dortmund does not seem to be able to endanger FC Bayern this season either. The gap that has accumulated in the first 17 match days is too great.

“We certainly didn’t play a perfect first series in the league, but neither did we have to go to the sackcloth,” said Dortmund’s licensed player manager Sebastian Kehl in the first half of the season to the “kicker”: “We’re second and have scored 34 points “The gap to Bayern is big, we can’t hide that.”

The designated successor to sports director Michael Zorc did not want to be carried away to a clear conclusion. Instead, Kehl emphasized that his balance sheet was “divided”. “I have to subdivide them because of the different results in the individual competitions,” said the BVB veteran.

BVB-Aus in the Champions League a “big disappointment”

Kehl described Dortmund’s end in the Champions League preliminary round as a “great disappointment”, as BVB was actually favored in the group with Ajax Amsterdam, Sporting and Besiktas. But in the end the Westphalia only got nine points and have to compete in the unpopular Europa League after the winter break.

In addition, BVB is still represented in the DFB Cup. Last season, Dortmund triumphed in the final against RB Leipzig. BVB is also pursuing a clear plan this season. “We are on target in the cup and our aim is to win the title,” Kehl made it unmistakably clear. In order for this plan to work, Borussia needs one thing above all in the upcoming second half of the season: more consistency.
