A few days after Geno Smith’s departure, the Seattle Seahawks found a new quarterback in the NFL Free Agency, which fits well with the new offensive coordinator.
The biggest name on the free agent market for quarterback was certainly Sam Darnold from the Minnesota Vikings. And that now changes to the Seattle Seahawks. There he receives a three -year contract of $ 110.5 million. Of these, $ 55 million should be guaranteed, as several media unanimously reported on Monday.
Darnold had played his best season in the NFL in 2024 and took the Vikings into the playoffs with a 14-3 record. There, however, they clearly lost 9:27 against the Los Angeles Rams directly in round 1.
Darnold threw in the game for 245 yards and a touchdown (Int). In total, he made it to 4319 yards with 35 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions. It was his first season in Minnesota after being active for a year as a backup at the San Francisco 49ers.
Darnold’s long way
Darnold was originally the third pick in Draft 2018 from the New York Jets, where he never really gained a foothold. In 2021 it went to the Carolina Panthers, where he started as a starter, but was then banished to the bench over time.
For the Seahawks, Darnold is probably the right fit, after all, he has shown his best performance in the NFL in a Shanahan McVay-Offensse. After he already looked a good time under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco in San Francisco, he finally convinced under Head Coach Kevin O’Connell, who in turn had taken up this West Coast Offens with Outside-Zone-Blocking-Scheme under Sean McVay at the Los Angeles Rams.
In Seattle, Darnold will now work under the offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who was the Passing Game Coordinator of the Niners in 2023 when Darnold also worked there.
