Pole vaulter Wilma Murto ended his racing season with a victory on Sunday in Beckum, Germany.

It was a breathtakingly long competition, as the victory was only decided by Murro’s sixteenth jump. He crossed 460 on Sunday.

– Again, it was not an easy race. I was quite nervous already when I arrived at the competition venue. But I thought this is the last sports performance of the season. Let’s let what goes, Murto said in the Sports Association’s press release.

– It was incredibly nice to end the season with this competition.

Murto crossed 410, 430, 440, 445 and 460 in the third. Only 420 passed on the first try.

– Apparently I needed the extra adrenaline brought by that last attempt for the crossings. The jumps improved towards the end of the race, but all the money had to be jumped.

Ukrainian Maryna Kylypko was second with a score of 440. Sweden Michaela Meijer was third (435).

In August, Murto won the European Championship with a Finnish record of 485. Although there were two prestigious competitions in the season, the Finnish star exceeded at least 460 in all his competitions even after Munich.

– You have to be satisfied with the competition season. The only small thing that bothers me is that it would have been nice to jump more races over 460 after the European Championships, but after the championship it took me a while to gather myself.

Next summer’s goal is to catch more crossings of 470 and 480.

– Now I won’t think about pole vaulting for three weeks and then we’ll go back to training and the basics.
