FC Schalke 04 has to do without goalkeeper Loris Karius for the rest of the season. This was announced by the second division soccer team on Monday.
Loris Karius suffered a structural muscle injury on the left calf at the 3: 3 of FC Schalke 04 at SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
“It will no longer be able to be used in the current season,” it said in the communication of the royal blue.
Youri Mulder, director of professional football, regrets the 31-year-old’s failure. “We will support Loris with our medical team in the best possible way. His injury at the present time is great bad luck. It is now about providing it optimally,” said the Dutch.
Karius, who had given his comeback in German professional football on January 28 after four years and had only risen number one on Schalke at the end of February, had been replaced in Fürth before the break.
Even after the game, coach Kees van Wonderen had no great hopes for an all -clear. “It doesn’t look like Loris was available for the next game against Ulm,” he said. Captain Kenan Karaman had emphasized: “He says that he has kinked badly. I hope that he has no serious injury.”
The game against promoted SSV Ulm will take place on April 6th in Gelsenkirchen (1:30 p.m.).
Antwi-Adjei also lacks FC Schalke 04
In the further course of the season, Justin Heekeren will probably stand between the Schalke posts again. The 24-year-old had previously had to hand over his place to Karius under a lot of vertebrae.
The extent to which the injury to the future of Karius affects is not known. The goalkeeper is only contractually bound to the narrow until the end of the season.
Christopher Antwi-Adjei also injured himself against Fürth in the game and is temporary with a slight muscle injury to the right thigh. When the left wing can support the Schalke again depends on the healing course.
