The fears have been confirmed. Leverkusen star Martin Terrier was seriously injured on Saturday evening.

After just eight minutes, Martin Terrier was substituted in Bayer Leverkusen’s game against Borussia Mönchengladbach (3-1). In the top game of the Bundesliga on Saturday evening, the Frenchman had to leave the field early because he had recently gotten stuck in the grass.

Teammate Granit Xhaka had expressed the faint hope that the 27-year-old’s fears of a serious injury would not come true. “I really hope that it’s not what we suspected and what he felt. That would be a slap in the face for the club and us players. You’ll be out for a while,” said the Swiss.

Meanwhile, coach Xabi Alonso had already become disillusioned. “It doesn’t look good,” said the coach – and in the end he was right.

As the “Werkself” announced on Sunday afternoon, Terrier actually had a hard time of it. The offensive man suffered a tear in his right Achilles tendon. This was revealed by an MRI scan.

One thing is certain: Terrier will be out at least until the end of the season. He will be operated on on Monday. He will complete his rehabilitation in the rehabilitation center in Leverkusen.

Managing Director Sport Simon Rolfes said: “This is a hard blow for Martin and also for us as a club. But we will support him wherever we can.” And further: “Something similar happened to Charles Aránguiz, and after his injury he also became an absolute top player at Bayer 04,” emphasized Rolfes.
