This afternoon the lifeless body of a man was recovered in the Maas near Statte (Huy). This is reported by the local police and civil protection.
A witness had reported last night that he had seen a person in trouble in the Meuse in Huy. The fire department and police were immediately called in to find the potential victim. However, that proved unsuccessful.
At the request of the Missing Persons Cell of the federal police, a specialized team of civil protection was sent to the scene this morning. The river was searched with a boat and a sonar. Around noon, a male body was found near the port of Statte. There was no formal element to identify the victim, police said.
The Liège public prosecutor’s office was informed of the find. An investigation has been opened into the deceased and the cause of death.
