Sean Combs aka P. Diddy is released early: Thanks to a drug rehabilitation program, his sentence is reduced again – he will now be released on April 15, 2026.

The prison sentence for rapper and entrepreneur Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy, has been shortened again.

Conviction and charges

Combs was sentenced to four years in prison in October 2025 after being charged with sexual abuse, promoting prostitution, sex trafficking and assault – including minors. Around 120 lawsuits were filed against him. Some plaintiffs said that the musician drugged and raped them. At least 25 of the plaintiffs were still minors at the time of the crime. His ex-wife Cassie Ventura had also reported him for assault and sexual abuse in 2023, thus getting the negotiations rolling.

Sentence and determination of guilt

The 56-year-old had already been held in the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center for a year before the official court order.

The plaintiffs had demanded over ten years in prison; the sentence was ultimately reduced to 50 months. The music mogul was found guilty of two Mann Act violations. The Mann Act criminalizes the transportation of people across state lines, making human trafficking a crime. The more serious charges – sex trafficking and conspiracy – resulted in an acquittal.

Shortening the length of detention

The original penalty was supposed to last until May 2028, but was extended by a month in December to June 2028. At the beginning of March 2026 it was said that he would be allowed to leave prison on April 25th – now even ten days earlier, on April 15th.

This was justified by a drug rehabilitation program that he had completed and which enabled him to have a shortened prison sentence.

Transfer and current prison conditions

He is currently in custody at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. His attorneys obtained the court transfer on the grounds: “To address issues related to substance abuse and to optimize family visitation opportunities and rehabilitation efforts.”

He should be allowed to leave prison in April 2028 – what follows after that is uncertain. The punishment for the rapper is therefore comparatively low.
