Sea Life places a container for extra shelter for seals

Due to bird flu, the seals are not allowed to stay in the same box with more than one animal, which creates extra crowds. It is the Marine Environment service of the FPS Public Health that makes a second container available.

More alert

The container is still empty, but up to four seals can be taken care of here to recover from bite wounds or to strengthen until they are released again. According to the sanctuary, the increased number of seals in Sea Life is mainly due to increased alertness.

“Especially bite wounds”

Steve Vermote of Sea Life: “I think mainly from the point of view of citizens, that people report much more quickly if they see a seal that is also injured or if they see something that is not right, they will report it to us much more quickly. go out much faster and take the seal with us if necessary.

We do notice that several seals mainly had bite wounds. We had already reported this in the press for a few weeks. To keep the dog on a leash, especially on the beach, keep doing this. We do notice that the bite wounds are less. We do catch sick seals that sometimes have lungworms or other things, but those are basically very small things that we can solve fairly quickly.”
