Jan-Willem worked a shift with traffic officer Curtis, who works at one of the police stations in the district. Near Bijlmerplein they supported other officers who had just chased a fat bike. According to a witness, the two passengers had tried to steal a screen from another fat bike.
Butt story
They also had tools with them. They themselves denied that they wanted to steal anything, but the traffic policeman was clear. “You can unscrew a screen with this, let’s be honest. You have a whole multi-tool with you. So I don’t believe it at all. The fact that you need a screwdriver for your own bike is a real shame.” Later, the owner of the fat bike filed a report against the boys.
“Stealing screens from fat bikes is something that happens more often here in the neighborhood,” Curtis explained afterwards. “These screens can be adjusted, and you can then connect them to a cable of your fat bike. And then your fat bike can, for example, go faster than 6 kilometers per hour with a throttle.”
Disconnect screen
He also had some advice for fat bike owners. “If you have your fat bike outside and you can disconnect your screen, do so. And take it inside. And don’t leave it on the handlebars of your fat bike, because then you will simply lose it.”
