Scientists surprised and “deeply worried”: water around South Pole becomes saltier

When melting sea ice around the South Pole, the waters there are not sweeter, as scientists had expected, but would be saltier. That can be a problem, because salt water freezes slower than fresh water and then it is less likely to be sea ice again. The European space organization ESA calls that deeply disturbing. The impact can be very large.
