The well-known Santa Claus with his red suit and white beard is based on a historical figure: Nicholas of Myra, a 4th-century bishop from modern-day Turkey, who is known in our region as Saint Nicholas or Sinterklaas. A new scientific reconstruction offers a unique look at what this source of inspiration for Santa Claus (or Sinterklaas) really looked like.
