Schreuder prefers Pasveer over Gorter: ‘But he is not yet the first keeper’ | NOW

Remko Pasveer will be preferred to Jay Gorter in Ajax’s Eredivisie match against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday, but that does not mean that the experienced goalkeeper is definitively the first choice under the bar this season. Trainer Alfred Schreuder is still undecided.

Gorter was preferred over Pasveer last week in the match against PSV for the Johan Cruijff Scale (3-5), but made a mistake in that game when two goals were conceded. Although the 22-year-old keeper recovered “fine” from this during training, according to Schreuder, the trainer opts for Pasveer against Fortuna.

“I spoke to Jay yesterday, and explained that he is the second choice today,” Schreuder said before the game. ESPN. “Remko did very well last year, so he deserves to be here today.”

Last year, 38-year-old Pasveer was a fixed value under the bar at Ajax, until he sustained a finger injury. With Pasveer, Ajax was well on its way to conceding the fewest goals ever in an Eredivisie season, but after his injury Ajax had to deal with many hits.

“It’s not necessarily the case that I call him first keeper, I’m still working on that,” said Schreuder. “A good keeper who radiates calm and coaches well is incredibly important for the entire defense. Remko reads the defense perfectly, which is good for the rear, but Gorter and Stekelenburg also have these qualities.”

The match between Ajax and Fortuna started at 4.30 pm in Sittard.
