Schonlau & Jatta turn city duel for HSV – gap to St. Pauli reduced to 3 points

First derby win since 2019

With their first derby win in two and a half years, Hamburger SV have come within three points of city rivals FC St. Pauli. The hosts won 2-1 (0-1) against the league leaders on Friday evening in front of 2,000 allowed spectators in the Volksparkstadion and climbed to the promotion relegation place of the 2nd Bundesliga. St. Pauli, who have not won in four league games, remain at the top at least until Saturday. Darmstadt 98 can pass the Hamburgers.

Sebastian Schonlau (58th) and Bakery Jatta (70th) scored the goals for HSV. Guido Burgstaller (30′) scored on the other side and scored his 15th goal of the season from close range. HSV had not won the previous five city duels – four defeats, one draw. With the win, coach Tim Walter’s team is now promising in the promotion race.

“Full Lotte” was Walter’s slogan. His team got off to a stormy start and had four chances in the first 20 minutes. The brisk gait of his team impressed FC St. Pauli, who initially retreated to the defensive and hardly accomplished anything constructive in attack. Daniel Heuer Fernandes easily mastered the guests’ first shot on goal (16′).

The clear superiority of HSV brought nothing at first. So it was not the hosts, but the St. Paulians who scored the opening goal. After a corner by Eric Smith, Burgstaller was served the ball. The Austrian striker had no trouble.

Even after the change of sides, HSV continued to set the tone and scored a well-deserved equalizer with a header from Schonlau after a corner. The nimble Jatta finally turned the game in favor of HSV with his goal after a pass from Sonny Kittel. The game remained exciting, but wasn’t top-class. Numerous fouls on both sides chopped up the flow of the game.

An early goal is enough for 1. FC Nürnberg to win against Fortuna Düsseldorf

After the third defeat in a row and only one win from the last ten competitive games, head coach Christian Preuß is about to be eliminated at Fortuna Düsseldorf. The Rhinelanders lost 1-0 (0-1) to 1. FC Nürnberg on Friday and are slipping deeper and deeper into the relegation battle. The Franconians, on the other hand, moved up to fourth place for at least a day with their third win from the last four away games. In front of 750 spectators in the Merkur Spiel-Arena, Lino Tempelmann (2nd) scored the goal for the guests to win.

Preußer, who turns 38 on Sunday, was able to fall back on defense chief Andre Hoffmann after a break of more than two months and promised himself more stability and better organization. But the hosts were caught off guard after just 103 seconds when Tempelmann was able to walk through the Düsseldorf defense without resistance and scored with a deflected shot to make it 1-0 for Nuremberg. Shortly afterwards he even had the chance to make it 2-0.

Fortuna organized themselves and had good chances to score through Robert Bozenik (35’/45′) and Edgar Prib (36′). But Nuremberg remained dangerous and dominated the game over long stretches. After an action by Christopher Schindler, Düsseldorf keeper Florian Kastenmeier was able to direct the ball to the crossbar (54′), but the hosts were no longer able to win a point.
