Dominique Janssen is very disappointed with causing the decisive penalty kick in the quarterfinals of Orange at the European Championship against France. The defender’s foul allowed the French to score the only goal of the game.

“I am super disappointed. I need time to give this a place”, Janssen said Saturday at the NOS after the 1-0 loss after extra time. “In general there were enough spaces, but we have not been able to show how well we can play football. That is disappointing.”

Thanks to a number of wonderful saves by Daphne van Domselaar, the Netherlands was able to keep a clean sheet against France for a long time. However, things went wrong in the eighth minute of extra time.

Janssen took down the broken Kadidiatou Diani in the box and after the intervention of the VAR the ball hit the spot. Ève Perisset then scored the penalty.

“It just sucks,” Janssen said about the penalty. “I was better positioned myself. I didn’t quite see where their striker was, although I just have to look better. I wanted to shoot the ball with a sliding, but I hit her.”

“Of course I’m the schlemiel, but I played a good game. I tried to show what I can do, but that didn’t help enough. It’s over.”
