Schiphol wants to persuade new staff to fill the many vacancies at the airport with a large job market this weekend. Last summer, the major staff shortage caused long queues, delays and even leftovers.
Thousands of Schiphol employees lost their jobs due to the corona crisis, but the recruitment of new staff is not going smoothly. This is due to the tight labor market, but possibly also to the working conditions, which do not appear to be attractive enough. 24 companies, including KLM and the Schiphol Group itself, hope to turn the tide with this Saturday’s job market.
The employers are looking for new ground stewardesses and stewards, platform employees, drivers, security guards and cleaners. At some companies, the contracts are already on the job market, ready to be signed.
Long queues
Last summer, the staff shortage caused chaotic scenes with long queues at Schiphol. It was not always possible for the employees to check in all travelers on time. As a result, some passengers saw their flights depart without them.
without suitcases
Those who were on board on time could not always count on a carefree holiday. The company Viggo, responsible for handling Transavia, did not have enough staff to deliver all suitcases to the aircraft on time. To the anger of the travelers, the airline was forced to leave the luggage behind at Schiphol several times.
