Schiphol boss Dick Benschop announces departure after chaos at the airport

Dick Benschop, the boss of Schiphol, has resigned. According to a statement on Schiphol’s website, he announced his departure to the supervisory board last night. Benschop will remain in office until a replacement is found.

The pressure on Benschop had been mounting for some time due to the chaos at the airport. Passengers have been dealing with extremely long lines, shortages of security personnel and chaos in the baggage process since the beginning of the summer.

“There is a lot of attention, and also criticism, for the way in which Schiphol tackles the problems and for my responsibility as CEO,” says Benschop in a short statement. “The situation at Schiphol and what that means for our travelers and employees is close to my heart. I have done my utmost, but we are not there yet. I do hope that things will get better soon. I love Schiphol. this company was a great honor for me.”
