Scheuring within Telstar: “Time for Telstar to be run as a football club, not as a hobby club”

Radi el Kaddouri stops immediately at Telstar. El Kaddouri founded Telstar’s new youth academy together with trainer Andries Jonker, who has since left, but is retiring to do so. Until last Tuesday he was also on the technical committee that has to appoint a new trainer.

“We have a different vision about the technical policy to be pursued. The trainer they want to appoint did not meet the vision of the club and mine, namely training youth with players from the region. The new trainer must therefore be concerned to the youth academy,” he says about his decision to leave the Technical Committee.

El Kaddouri himself would not comment on names of potential trainers, but sources at Telstar say that Mike Snoei is the main candidate.

“It’s time for younger blood among Telstar policymakers”

On a voluntary basis, he set up the youth academy together with Jonker and the North Hollander was ultimately responsible for this. “Young people are the future. You have to give them a lot of time and love. If you don’t have a big bag of money like Telstar, you have to give young players the chance,” said El Kaddouri. He was therefore a strong supporter of continuing with the Jonker who has since left and after a number of years they wanted to reap the benefits of the new youth academy.

Together with his brother Ahmed he used to play football in the youth of Telstar. After that, they built a very successful real estate company together. The arrival of former trainer Jonker made El Kaddouri enthusiastic to join Telstar. He did that about a year and a half ago.

Players want Jonker back

It NHD let you know on Thursday evening that the players have sent a letter to the management of Telstar. It states that they would like to have Andries Jonker back. Chris B. van der Zwan, member of the Technical Committee, says in the newspaper that this has been passed over.

Rejuvenation

The brothers Radi and Ahmed el Kaddouri are eager to mean something to Telstar. This requires change within the football club. “It is time for younger blood among the policymakers of Telstar. The club must be run as a football club and no longer as a hobby club. Everyone’s egos and pride must be put aside and the interests of the club must be put first. All noses should be in the same direction, regardless of position within the club,” Radi el Kaddouri is clear.

The current Technical Committee consists of Chris B. van der Zwan, Ton Zwart, Roderik van Seumeren and Frans van Essen. They are all elderly. General director Pieter de Waard has also been with the football club since 2006.

The real estate entrepreneur emphasizes that he did not leave with slamming doors. “I certainly do not have a monopoly on wisdom. I am one of the (future) shareholders of the club and I will remain so. I will simply fulfill my sponsorship agreements.”

Reaction Chris B. van der Zwan

One of the members of the Technical Committee is Chris B. van der Zwan. He says that after the disappointing results of last season and the progression of the first team, doubts have arisen about the functioning of trainer Andries Jonker.

At Telstar’s request, a working group was set up to draw up a desired trainer profile. It emerged that a clear structure must be used, the trainer must be vulnerable and that the discipline must be tackled inside and outside the field. “It goes without saying that the new trainer pays attention to the youth academy,” said Van der Zwan.

“As a group we came to the conclusion that he did not fit the profile”

In the meantime, various discussions have been held with potential trainers. That process takes longer because a number of candidates have declined for financial reasons. During that process, Radi el Kaddouri came up with a request to talk to Andries Jonker again. Then they did. “As a group we came to the conclusion that he did not fit the profile. Radi could not agree with that and that is why he unfortunately left the Technical Committee.”

Nevertheless, Van der Zwan regrets the departure of Radi el Kaddouri. “He has had a lot of added value for the youth academy. I take my hat off to that. I hope that we can close the ranks again soon and work together on a sporty future.”
