Schedule and route of the street

Sitges is preparing for the return of Carnival to the streets. The wait this time has been longer than usual, since the parades were canceled last year due to the coronavirus.

For the return of the famous celebrations, a wide variety of activities distributed throughout the week, among which two acts stand out above the rest: The ‘Street of the Disbauxa‘ and the ‘Rua de l’Extermini’, the two most emblematic parades. This year, both are expected to bring together 1,300 participants and 34 floats with limited registration due to covid-19, according to the Sitges City Council.

The ‘Rua de la Disbauxa’

The sunday 27 The first massive event of the Sitges Carnival will be held. Without going any further, the local administration estimated the participation of the ‘Rua de la Disbauxa’ in 2020 -the last edition normally- at 2,200 people and 43 floats.

This year the parade will start at 7:00 p.m. on Sofia Avenue. As the floats advance, the participants will skirt the sea, passing through the Paseo de la Ribera to the Plaza de la Fragata. Afterwards, the parade will return to the promenade and will cross Bassa Rodona street and Pou Vedre square. The tour will end at Espalter Street around 10 pm.

It should also be noted that on the same Sunday at 12 noon the children’s modality will be held, which will have a similar route: it will end in Pou Vedre square without reaching Espalter street.

The ‘Rua de l’Extermini’

The second date to mark in red on the Sitgetan carnival calendar is the Tuesday 1 of March. The ‘Rua de l’Extermini’ is celebrated, prior to the burial of King Carnestoltes the following day.

The route will be exactly the same as the one planned for Sunday’s parade, starting on Sofía Avenue and ending on Espalter Street. The schedule will also be the same, since it is scheduled to take place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Regarding the parade for children, both the route and the timetable will also be the same as those of the ‘Rua de la Disbauxa’ children’s parade.
