Persistent complaints
Assan Ouédraogo is traveling with the German U17 national team to the upcoming World Cup in Indonesia on Thursday, but his appearance is still questionable. As his club Schalke 04 announced on Wednesday evening, the central midfielder’s MRI ruled out a structural injury after problems in his thigh, but it would not have been possible to play against SV Elversberg on Friday due to ongoing complaints.
“We are therefore putting Assan in the care of the DFB from Thursday so that they can form their own opinion and continue to build him up carefully. At the U17 European Championships a few months ago, he was gradually successfully integrated after a long injury. Our clear expectation now is that the DFB will gradually introduce him to the team again in order to then see whether he is eligible for tournament appearances,” explained sports director André Hechelmann about the most valuable youngster in the DFB squad with a market value of 6 million euros .

The U17’s first group game will take place on November 12th against Mexico, followed by duels with New Zealand (November 15th) and Venezuela (November 18th). The round of 16 will take place from November 20th to 22nd and the tournament ends on December 2nd. However, the official FIFA release period ends after the group stage, so S04 will clarify again at this point whether Ouédraogo will stay with the U17 or return to Gelsenkirchen, as was further announced.
Hechelmann had already stated a few days ago that they would “put the interests of the club first” with a view to the games against Düsseldorf and Osnabrück that followed Elversberg – after all, Ouédraogo was one of the more difficult to find in the game this season Bright spots from the “miners”.
