The change from Paul Seguin (30) from FC Schalke 04 to Hertha BSC is perfect. The midfielder signed a contract on Wednesday until June 30, 2027 and returned to the capital after two years. According to the transfer, the transfer is 400,000 euros.
“Paul combines ball and passport security, a high understanding of the game as well as a lot of experience and routine in the 2nd Bundesliga, with which he will strengthen our team. We are therefore very happy about his signature,” said sports director Benjamin Weber. Seguin added: “It was seen at the end of last season that something was created here. The good conversations with those responsible made me curious about the crotch and I’m looking forward to getting started with Hertha.”
Seguin’s market value fell for the second time since moving to the royal blue in the past second division season. With an assessment of 2.5 million euros, the Magdeburg -born 2023 came from Union Berlin, at the end of last year it went down to 1.2 million euros. Seguin will not be able to keep this value in the upcoming market value update on Thursday.
At Schalke no longer asked: Seguin absolutely wanted to go to Hertha
With only one year of contract term, Seguin Schalke has a lower amount than the 750,000 euros paid at Union. Back in Berlin, he will meet ex-coach Stefan Leitl at the city rival Hertha, under which Seguin played more than 100 games during the time together in Fürth-as many as not under any other coach. At Schalke, Seguin was a regular player most of the time and sometimes also wore the captain’s armband. In 57 games, the former junior international scored six goals, he prepared nine goals for his colleagues. Five assists in the past season were the second men of all Schalke professionals.
“Paul came up to us with the desire to leave Schalke 04. We are also striving for a change in this position. With Hertha BSC we have found an economically sensible solution. We thank Paul for his commitment in Königblau and wish him all the best for his sporting and private future,” said director Professional football Youri Mulder.
