On the deadline day, FC Schalke 04 gave up Amine Harit, a top earner, to Olympique Marseille on the home stretch. As in the previous year, the 25-year-old offensive player was loaned out to the French first division team – a transfer deal that includes a purchase obligation under certain conditions and could relieve the royal blues financially.
“We had many unbelievably high-paying contracts in the squad. Many players then helped us and let themselves be transferred. That was vital for the club. With Amine, we already had the feeling when he was loaned to Marseille that he would finally change after that,” said Schalke’s sporting director Rouven Schröder in the football talk “Sky90”. This hope had been dashed, so renegotiation had to take place. And according to Schröder, the Harit personality developed into a true transfer thriller – with a positive ending for everyone involved.

We then decided that he would be trained but not used. In the end, Amine was transferred very late,” the manager gave an insight. “The deal was off an hour and a half before the end of the transfer. You have to say that quite clearly. We then said as Schalke 04 that we were taking a certain risk and might push the transfer towards January. In the end, however, things turned out differently. If Amine had ended up staying with us, we would have used him too.”
Schröder confirms: Only staying up in the Bundesliga counts for Schalke
Schalke are ranked 15th after five matchdays, a win has not yet come about under the new head coach Frank Kramer. Those responsible gave the relegation as the goal. “We don’t need to talk about it. We said that from the start. External demands on Schalke are still extremely high. But we have to stay with ourselves. When we speak of conviction, we also have to live by it,” emphasized Schröder, who equipped the squad with 17 newcomers, most recently striker Kenan Karaman.
