Schalke confirms: Malick Thiaw moves to AC Milan – important fee

Van den Berg to talks on site

Malick Thiaw’s move from FC Schalke 04 to AC Milan is perfect. The clubs officially announced this on Monday evening. The 21-year-old signed a contract with the Rossoneri until June 30, 2027. When it comes to the fee, the information from various media varies widely: from a mid-single-digit million range plus lavish bonuses to around 10 million euros plus 2 million euros in bonuses .

“It was a difficult decision for us to let Malick go. He is a homegrown product from the Knappenschmiede, has developed very well in recent years and would have been an asset to our squad in terms of sport. We always have to consider the economic aspects in all decisions – just like last winter, when we still refused a change. The framework conditions are different now and financially so good that we have now approved the transfer,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Christina Rühl-Hamers, responsible for finances, added: “With the proceeds from the transfer of Malick Thiaw, we were able to meet the financial premises that we had set ourselves before the changeover period. This enables us to have greater economic ability to act on other issues and challenges that we are still facing.”

Thiaw himself said: “I’m looking forward to the new challenge in Milan. It is important to me to thank everyone who has accompanied me on my way at FC Schalke 04. With those responsible, coaches, supervisors, employees and all the players with whom I was able to experience special moments. I would like to explicitly thank the Schalke fans, without whose support I would not have been able to go this route. For me, Schalke 04 will always be a special club that I will always be connected to.”

Schalke is looking for a Thiaw replacement: is Liverpool’s van den Berg coming?

Meanwhile, Schalke are looking for a replacement for Thiaw. “Our plan is for us to be active again in central defense on the transfer market in order to keep the competition in the squad as high as possible. We have good guys who want Malick’s place and will put up a tough fight. I’m confident that another player will be added shortly,” said Schröder.

After it was reported on Monday that Dutchman Sepp van den Berg was to be loaned out by FC Liverpool, the 20-year-old was already in Gelsenkirchen in the evening for talks with Schalke officials. However, a deal has not yet been concluded, according to “Sky” and “Sport1”, as another German club is interested and represents an option for van den Berg.
