This year’s transfer summer has it all. This is because the clubs are allowed to sign players for the first time in two different periods. Due to the club World Cup, the first transfer window for the participating clubs opens on June 1st and then closes again on June 10th. The regular transfer window then goes from July 1st to September 1st.
After a catastrophic second division season in 14th place, FC Schalke 04 is the first prominent departure. According to matching media reports, left -back Derry John Murkin moves to the Dutch Eredivisie for a transfer fee of 1.5 million euros. According to information from the “Sport Bild”, Sky and the “WAZ”, the 25-year-old will complete the medical check at FC Utrecht during Friday.
Schalke uses the chance of an adequate transfer, since Murkin’s contract only has one year validity until June 2026. The Englishman came to Gelsenkirchen in the summer of 2023 after the Bundesliga relegation from Eredivisie Club FC Volendam. In the past season he played 33 competitive games for the royal blue.
Defender Anthony Jung changes to SC Freiburg within the Bundesliga from Werder Bremen. The 33-year-old is already the fourth newcomer to Freiburg within a week. Jung should close the gap in the Badeners that Manuel Gulde left. The 34-year-old had ended his career after the season-also for reasons of injury.
Jung played for Werder for four years, and his contract with the Hanseates was not extended. He brings “a lot of experience with”, said Freiburg’s sports director Jochen Saier. Young is “strong in duels and can be used with his left foot in several systems in different positions. It will do us good for us in view of the upcoming loads in several competitions.”
After coach Hansi Flick, service provider Raphinha has also extended his contract with the Spanish champion FC Barcelona. As the Catalans announced, the 28-year-old signed a new contract until 2028. Raphinha had worn the captain’s bond at Barcelona during the violation of national goalkeeper Marc-André Ter.
The wing striker switched from Leeds United to Barça in 2022. After two ordinary seasons, Raphinha particularly turned up under Flick this season: in 56 competitive games, he has so far reached 34 goals and 25 templates. With Robert Lewandowski and young star Lamine Yamal, he forms one of the most dangerous attacks in Europe.
After promoting the Bundesliga, Thomas Kessler permanently takes on sporting responsibility at 1. FC Köln. The club announced this on Thursday. Kessler signed a contract as a sports director, which is valid until 2027.
The former goalkeeper and head of the license player department had stepped in after the discharge of the sports managing director Christian Keller and fulfilled his task convincingly, the board justified this decision.
