Despite a 27:31 (14:15) defeat at the Norwegian representative Kolstad, SC Magdeburg is in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
The sixth place in group B and thus the progress, regardless of the bankruptcy, cannot be taken away from the German handball champion. The best SCM thrower was Matthias Musche with eight goals.
Magdeburg was able to fall back on Michael Damgaard again, but had to do without Lukas Mertens on the left winger and competed with only twelve field players. Nevertheless, the double winner of the pre-season came into play well, but then missed too many opportunities and fell behind.
Magdeburg with offensive weaknesses
Until the break, both teams delivered a duel at eye level. Also because the substitute goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez kept two important balls in double outnumbered and the SCM kept in the game. After the change of sides, however, the hosts expanded their lead to three goals.
Magdeburg could not reduce the deficit in the majority. Above all, the breakthroughs to the circle were missing, so that the parades of Hernandez had little worth. With the seventh field player, Magdeburg took a risk in the final phase, but was no longer able to turn the game.
