Freiburg’s Atubolu is ready
Goalkeeper Mark Flekken (29) at SC Freiburg could end in the summer. “It’s possible that Mark will leave us. He’s dealing with it. There is interest from the island,” said Freiburg’s sports director Jochen Saier in “One-two on Sport1“. Accordingly, number one should have an exit clause of 13 million euros.
At the end of March, the “Kicker” brought Brentford FC into play as an interested party. Saier was involved with the “Bees” in 2022 when Kevin Schade (21) was loaned out, who will probably buy the German international for 25 million euros.

Flekken renewed his contract with the sports club in September 2022 and has been a regular in the Dutch national team squad since October 2021. In the Bundesliga, the former Duisburg player shares fourth place with Manuel Neuer (37, Bayern) and Jonas Omlin (29, Gladbach) in a comparison of the most valuable goalkeepers – Flekken’s market value is 7 million euros. Freiburg signed him from MSV in 2018 for €2m and made him number one from the 2021/22 season. According to Saier, it is “but legitimate” that he might now want to move on.
Should Flekken leave the club, Freiburg is already prepared. “With Noah Atubolu, we have the U21 national goalkeeper behind us,” said Saier. The 20-year-old native has been with the club since 2015 and has made three appearances for the first team this season. In the 3rd division he kept his box clean twelve times in 24 games. Atubolu, who has been part of the DFB U21 since the end of 2021, is by far Germany’s most valuable goalkeeper talent ahead of Marcel Lotka (21, BVB) and Jonas Urbig (19, Regensburg).
