In the semi-final second leg of the Europa League against Sporting Braga on Thursday (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online), SC Freiburg wants to reach a European final for the first time in the club’s history. After the 2-1 defeat in Portugal last week, the Bundesliga club needs a win in front of their home crowd.
In Braga it had looked like a 1-1 draw for a long time before Mario Dorgeles scored a narrow victory for the Portuguese in stoppage time. SC full-back Philipp Treu was annoyed after the game: “I was so angry after this action. I would have liked to have cut everything short and small.”
Despite the anger over the late goal, coach Julian Schuster stated shortly after the final whistle that “everything is still possible” for his team. This feeling is fueled by a strong home record: Freiburg have won all six home games in the Europa League so far this season.
Schuster therefore refrains from taking any special measures before this historic game. The circumstances are “such special circumstances anyway, which is why we don’t need anything special in terms of our approach; we can just trust our usual processes.” Central defender Matthias Ginter is even thinking a little further: “I just hope, especially for people, that they get the feeling of winning a title.”
